A specialist flooring contractor

Specialist Surfaces Group installs commercial flooring and prepares the surfaces underneath it. We work on fit-outs, refurbishments and new build, on projects where the floor has to satisfy a specification and a programme rather than simply look right at handover.

What we do

We supply and install commercial flooring and carry out the surface preparation that goes in underneath it, on new build, fit-out and refurbishment. Both are delivered by experienced installation teams managed by SSG rather than passed to another subcontractor.

Why we're different

Most commercial floor failures are substrate failures. Moisture that was never tested for, laitance that was never removed, a base that was never flat enough for the covering going on it. The preparation is the half of the job that is buried by handover, so it is the half we are most particular about.

  • Substrate testing before anything goes down

Moisture readings, levels and a look at what is actually there. A covering laid over an untested slab is a warranty claim waiting to happen.

  • Mechanical surface preparation

Laitance removal, grinding, and adhesive or coating removal, so the new system bonds to sound substrate rather than to whatever was left behind.

  • Levelling to the specified regularity

Smoothing and levelling compounds taken to the surface regularity the covering needs, SR1 or SR2 to BS 8204, not simply flat enough to look right.

  • Detailing that holds up in service

Welded seams, coved skirtings and capping seals where hygiene or wet areas require them. The junctions are where a floor fails first.

  • Phased delivery on live sites

Wards, classrooms and trading floors handed back section by section, working nights and weekends where the programme needs it.

  • Damp proofing where the reading demands it

Surface damp proof membranes specified against the moisture result rather than fitted as a precaution or left out as an optimism.

Who we work with

We work as a subcontractor to main contractors and directly for developers, estates and facilities teams. Most enquiries reach us either from a specification that needs pricing or from a drawing that needs a buildable answer.
